Thank you Christy

My roommate for the Bonanza was Christy S.

Christy and I had never met before the Bonanza. She lives in Ardmore OK, and I live in East Texas. But I knew of Christy's work. I had seen her metal sculptures on another message board. Christy takes metal junk, and she welds it into really neat stuff. I knew that she was driving from her town, to a town just south of me this week, and that she'd be driving real close on her way. I had accumulated a bunch of metal junk, mostly by products of other stuff I'd bought, and made arrangements to meet her just off the highway to give her the 3 boxes of metal this-n-that. I was so surprised when she pulled this out of her truck to give me.

I told you she welds wonderful stuff.

Isn't that little bird just adorable.
It has already found a home in my yard and I am enjoying it very much.
You'll be hearing more about Christy in the near future. I'm hoping to get her to start a blog so she can share her wonderful creations with all of you.
She suggested that I put a poly on it, or that I might just want to let it rust. I had it out the first night and it got rained on, and the poor shiney bird is already showing some rust spots. I like the rusty look, and can't decide if I want to poly just the bird and the center shiny ball to keep them shiny. What do you think? Thank you again Christy, I love my birdbath.

  2. Lucky you, Margo! Beautiful project! Tell Christy she did a beautiful job (and to start a blog soon)! As far as the bird...I like the shiny finish...hmmm...but I also like rusty things. You can't go wrong either way!

  3. I love the bird! I'd probably poly the shiny head and let the rest rust.

We are going on a buying trip this weekend in Bandera, Gruene and Salado. Should have some good junk pictures when we get back. ~Mindy

  8. You both gave each other some really nice things and I think the rusty bird bath is adorable. I suggest applying a poly coat since the piece already has a good amount of rust on it (it looks great right now). That way it won't over-rust.
