Yesterday's finds

First let me say that his magazine thing I mentioned Is not a huge thing. It's not a big story on junking or anything like that. If it's anything, it may be one picture of one project. But I won't know more for several months.
But the first hurtle has been passed, and now I wait. I will tell you it is a dream of mine to get something, anything into a magazine. For me it's like the ultimate pat on the back, that someone thinks one of my projects is good enough for the printed page. I know it's silly, but it is on my "life list".

I was feeling the need for Junk yesterday, and i found one estate sale in the area and headed off to it. It was in a poorer part of town, which ironically, has some of the best junk. I found a few metal items there and a couple of wire
desk baskets. While I was in the area I hit one of my favorite antique/junk spots. Kinda a secret in this area. This guy has drawers full of finials, clock parts, and glass door knobs and he is ready to make a deal. Between the 2 stops I picked up all of this great junk.

I always need glass door knobs and he said these finials came off of clocks that are
over 100 years old. He's got lots of clock stuff, faces, hands, gears etc. I also got some old keys, and a couple of hinges from him.
and then he brought out a can full of gears.

Just look at all those gears...
After I'd finished up this purchase he mentioned "broken China".
"broken china" I say with a sparkle in my eye, "show me".
I got all of this china for $10.00

So I was one happy camper. Now I've got to talk with my friend Linda (blue gate) and figure out how to do a china mosaic top for one of my junk coffee tables.
Right now it's just too cold outside. I went out for awhile, but I froze my little patootie off. So I guess I'll stick with jewelry creations tonight.
Stay warm.
Margo

Congrats again on the magazine thing. No matter how big or small it is still exciting.
You got some great stuff, as usual.
I can't wait to go with you someday on one of your treasure hunts.

Hello!

I was trying to find where the sprucing up the office section is. I've been trying to decorate both at home and in my cubicle. I love this stuff!

Any ideas for cheap, unusual, creative bookcases??

Thanks for all the inspiration!!!

I have a few ideas on this page
http://www.robomargo.com/organization.html

Here's a shelf unit I made form old shutters. You could use larger shutters and make a larger one

And here is one I saw in a store

take a look at the shutters page for more small shelving ideas

There is a cute screen organizer on the doors page

Here's a cute idea

Hope that helps. It can be a real challenge to decorate a work space and still have it useable. So much of what we need in the workplace, is not decorative but necessary.

Good Luck.

Thanks I will definitely check these out!!!

My homespace is a big challenge...literally. It's an 1800 sq foot loft apt. 100 x 18. white-ish berber carpet - ick. white painted brick. I don't really have much on the walls. So, I'm on a campaign to spruce things up!

Your "finds" posts always make me miss the Midwest. I grew up in Illinois and used to love to go to county auctions, flea markets and estate sales. Now that I live in Alaska, I'm resigned to thrift stores and a few VERY expensive antique stores (that ironically, ship most of their stuff up from the Midwest!).

But I sure enjoy seeing your treasures!
