More Junk Around the House-Family Room

Like most families we have a main room, where the TV is, and a nice comfie couch. This is the place to plop down, watch a show, grab a blanket on a cold night etc. Our family room is the only living space in our downstairs. We have no formal living room, which is fine with me.
And it is not short on Junk.

We'll start on the TV wall, I mean we all have one right. And before DH got the big screen, it was all nicely tucked away in this TV Cabinet. But not any more.
On each side of the black hole, I've hung some great shaped window frames, with 1/2 spindles in each one. An old arched window frame is above the black hole.

One of the reasons I like Junk as decoration is that it can be very inexpensive. I like to change things up often, and junk allows me to do this without breaking the bank. Think about framed art. You know how much it costs to get a print matted and framed, it's outrageous. Well junk frames up much cheaper.

Above the couch I have a collage of frames (all purchased from garage sales), with various junky objects inside.
On the left is a candelabra, meant to clip on to the back of a pew. A couple of ceiling tins in the top one, a couple of old door plates on the right, and 3 old shoe forms on in the bottom one.

We are blessed with a wood burning stove, and I've accessorized it with 3 wonderful old wooden gear molds I picked up in MN.

The room is very long, and could actually be considered 2 rooms. It's great for gatherings, but a little strange to furnish. I placed a bistro table in this corner with a chess board on top. We rarely actually play so I put an old post card display on there, with family photo's in it. On the wall to the right are various old gate hinges, and on the left is an old windmill inside a re-purposed frame.

I love this iron piece. We actually found this while digging a flower bed. I think it's some sort of livestock trough. Not any more, I added a little pea gravel and some candle cups and now It's a coffee table centerpiece.

This collage was one of my first projects ever. It's made up of a hodge podge of architectural remnants.

This little table sits next to my husband's area
This was a small old library cabinet. 2 drawers were missing. I glued a frame over the missing drawer holes and added 4 legs from the hardware store. It's great for pencils, paper, remote controls, etc

What I have out on tables changes often, right now I have this old lantern with a family photo and an arrangement of old garden pots.

I hope you enjoyed my family room. It is one of my favorite rooms in the house.
As you can see, Junk can be used in traditional decor as well. It's not just for shabby chic or cottage.

Oooh, girl, LOVE your way of thinking! Everything looks fabulous, and i love how unique and original everything is! i hate factory made new stuff because it looks like everyone's stuff. But I love junk like you!
Love the way you displayed the hinges! I just started to buy a couple of them (I usually go for the handles and knobs myself) and will do something like you!

I really like the objects inside the frames. Gives them importance and when something is loved and cherished, it should feel important!
Digging the trough out must have been like playing pirates.
I really love the pew candle holder.

You're inspiring me to finish my living room redo. I just need to get things up on the walls. It will have to wait until we get home from Warrenton. Susan

I love your "junk" ... which I refuse to call junk, because it is so beautiful!!! I hope to spend more time on your blog later today to get ideas!

With every picture I thought, Oh, this is my favorite and then I'd scroll down to the next one. What a wonderful mind to come up with so many creative ideas.
I had to laugh. We too are blessed with a wood burning stove on a pad of the same type of brick. It has really come in handy when the electricity goes out in the winter!
Hope you have a wonderful time at Junk Bonanza. Can't wait to read all about it. Tell Ki hello from everyone in Gladewater. We all really enjoyed meeting you both.

I found that I was able to buy good family room furniture for a great price at the spacify.com. It was less costly than elsewhere
