Where I've been, and what I've been doing

Updates and Progress below original post.

DH has been keeping me busy with projects. We've been talking about sprucing up our side yard area since we moved into this house, and we've finally started. He's been busy adding on to the deck, repairing an existing bridge.

Then I had to powerwash the old deck and stain the whole thing and the sides of the hot tub, and the bridge,

and just when I thought I was finished staining, he builds this.
It looks awsome. I think it would be great to have a wedding here someday.

I'm not looking forward to staining it, I told him he's holding the ladder while I do it.

Can you see the vision.

Between the arbor and the deck,
rock pavers, concrete bench, lots of shade plantings, and eventually a pond. I can't wait till it's done, but there is lots left to do. It seems he always needs me to hold something, find something, paint something, or offer an opinion. I've got lots of those :)

Watch for the progress

Staining the Arbor

Getting the higher parts of the arbor stained

DH made this bench, something else that will need to be stained

Almost done with the arbor

Arbor is done, Yeah!!

Stones are delivered, waiting for their final placement

DH decided to get artistic with one of them.

This fun bird house has found it's spot

5/29/10 Leveling the stones

5/31/10 Stones are in place, some planting done. I've planted grass seed to grow between the stones. Still 2 more areas to plant.

We are entering the home stretch. We still have a few beds to plant, and to clean up all our tools.

DH added more stones to create a path in and out of the the area today

Boston Fern's hang from either side of the arbor

As I sit on the bench this is what I will see. Now you know why I love this piece of property. I'm so glad we moved here, and I'm so glad that we finally got around to fixing up this side yard so this view can be enjoyed.

On the other side of the bridge is a fire pit area. Gotta have a place to roast those marshmallows. There is no water in that creek, it's more of a drainage creek. DH wants to build a pond that goes under it and then is dammed up just down the way a bit. I think ponds are too much trouble, especially with all the leaves we get around here in the fall. But DH will do what DH wants to do :)

By mid June it's all finished

Remember when I said, "can you see the vision"? Now we don't have to imagine.

I planted some thin blade grass between the stones to hold the dirt together and give it a natural grout-like look. I've also planted that grass on this side of the arbor but it has not started growing yet.
I'm glad this project is finally done, and happy with the results.

Now Where is my Lemonade??????

He's got talent...maybe you should hang a "Husband for Hire" sign on him to make a little extra money for all those projects!

Your deck and yard is so nice. Your hubby and you make a great team. Maybe he'll help you stain the pergola. (I don't like being that far off the ground either.)

Wow, that's going to look great! Going to stock the pond?

Margo, that pergola looks great! I'm wanting something like that at the farm, perhaps not quite that big, but I want to grow something viney on it. I can't wait to see it finished. And I really like that Texas stone. Great job, you two!

I LOVE that pergola. I've decided our garden would look really great with one, and your photos have certainly made up my mind. Now I have to talk husband round... xx
