The Great Purge of 2011

It usually happens to me this time of year, I get the urge to purge. It's a post Christmas ritual. But this year I was "more than encouraged" my Mr Roboto. After months of ribbing me about how "dense" my accessorizing is getting, with not so subtle jibs and jabs, it finally all came to a head earlier this week. I guess I just couldn't get it all purged fast enough, or was not quite purging "enough".
So now the Super Purge has begun in earnest.

I don't really have any good pics to share because, frankly I'm not feeling it. I've removed everything and then one item at a time, I'm bringing a few things back. A fraction of what I had before. And with each item, I think to myself "will he hate this?" "Will this be one item too many?" He swears it's not my style that was bothering him, but the shear "volume" of stuff."

So starting with an empty hutch I began to ask him." How much is too much", I tried to pull up blog pics of decorated hutches, and to him it was ALL too much. This from my Chrome and Glass, Decorating Husband. AGGGGGG!! So that is where I've been this week, completely re-setting my entire home. Trying find that common ground that we can both live with.

On the other side of the coin, I've got lots of stuff!!! (above is only 1 wagon load) and it's all stacking up in the barn and will be trickling into my etsy store and booths over the next few months. I don't think I need to go junking for a long long time (no not really).

How about you, how does your" significant other" deal with your "junk"?

Hey Margo - I know what you mean. I'm gonna have to make room at the farmhouse for all the crap we're gonna have to move. Hindsight is 20/20, right?

May have to have a sale at the farmhouse before it's all over with...

I loved having all the stuff while it was my "playhouse" but if we're going to live there, purging has to happen...

My sweetie is very good about the decor. Since I don't have an outlet to sell right now though, he keeps saying, "It keeps coming in and nothing's going out!!" My stack in the garage is growing!

We have a lovely charity shop near us that sells furniture. They keep selling things I like. WE CANNOT HAVE ANY MORE FURNITURE IN THE HOUSE! But it's so difficult to pass up lovely stuff that's a bargin.
Husband doesn't moan as much as he wants because he'd lose his voice, but I fear an explosion could happen sometime soon. :) xx

I think he humors me but I wonder how much he holds in. I will be purging too. You're right, must be that time of year. Just want a clean slate.

Mine, so far, loves the "stuff"! He never complains. What he doesn't like piling up is paperwork and magazines. So I have to purge there for sure.
Good luck on your "new" accessorizing.

Girl I feel your pain! Maybe you could compromise on certain "rooms" of the house. My family doesn't tolerate my junkin' that well and I'm constantly moving it around the house, trying to hide it, hoping they don't notice! A good purging every once in awhile is good, though, because it clears the mind and makes you realize what's really important to you.
Remember what they say: a good marriage takes a lot of sacrifice and compromise; (so why don't we ever see the males sacrificing or compromising??) Good Luck!!

Every one that comes into my home, loves how it is decorated especially the kitchen. It is cozy and comfortable. I had a small wall where I displayed my old wooden red handled kitchen utensils. Most were gifts from friends and family. One night he went on a rant about these. A long rant. I took them all off the wall that night and cleaned out most of the kitchen and packed it up. Now when friends come in they all make the comment what did you do? It looks like one of those sterile model homes, that no one lives in. Now he gets it. There are certain rooms for him....the bathrooms and the bedroom. Very simple and clean. But the rest of the house, I know what I am doing. I understand completely where you are at.

All of your comments are such an encouragement to me. You are pretty good at reading between the lines.
Sherrie, I am afraid it is looking a bit sterile to me right now. Model house look is what came to mind even before you said anything.
But you are all right, Marriage is a compromise, and I'm doing my part.
Thank you,
Margo
