So today I told her I had lots for her to pick up because I'd had a great weekend on ETSY. She was clueless, "What's Isey?" she asked. I corrected her pronunciation and began to sing the praises of ETSY. She asked what kinds of stuff I sold, and I happened to have an unpacked box that I showed her. She looked at the box-o-junk, and looked at me with a blank expression, and said "people buy that stuff"?
"OH Yes" I replied," there's a big market out there for this kind of stuff". Again I get the blank look.
I do love my Mail carrier though, I was able to call her cel this morning before she got away from the Post Office and asked her to bring me a handful of Priority Mail envelopes and she was happy to do it. I told her if all PO employees were as great as her, people wouldn't make fun of the Post office so much.
Do you ever get that look, you know the one???? I just have to laugh "silently" to myself knowing that "you either get it or you DON'T"

HA! Sounds like the look I get from my mother-in-law when I decorate with my cool junk.
I got a funnel (a little rusty even) from Etsy today and she looked at me like I was nuts.
My mum just laughs now. My dad would say 'I've thrown away better stuff than that!' (which, between you and me, is a lie - he's as much a hoarder as I am. :) xx
Yes I have gotten that look many a time. What is very cool is when they do get it!!! Ha!

From my friends and family...All.The.Time!

Ohhh yes! Most the time I don't even try to explain. I just feel sorry for them. Do you get people giving you there old junk to "sell in your shop". They don't get it either. Enjoy your weekend!
Ha! Yes, I am quite familiar with that look! I get it most often from my husband!! :-)
Funny! I have a house full of flea market and handmade treasures and my sis-in-law, who only likes NEW things from the store (ugh) totally doesn't get it! I can only smile :o)
Smiles, Karen
i have a friend who is the head of her department at a university up north, who stitches small folksy looking art pieces, but dismisses them as stupid, talks about how unimportant and silly such things are, how her coworkers would snicker at such stuff, and i admit, it aggravates me. i tell her there are tons of folks making a living with such things, with other "junk", and she still tosses it off as nothing.
like karen sue, i feel sorry for her and others who don't see beyond the obvious, and immensely happy & grateful for you & others who do. :)
Ha! I don't even try to explain what I do anymore; if pressed I just say "I buy and sell old stuff", then change the subject...I hate trying to explain to someone who will never get it!
Thank goodness for blogland where we can all get excited about each other's great junk.
:)

P.S. Love my mail carrier too - she's great.
I have a wonderful mail carrier, too. He even brings my packages to my door! For my international packages, I just attach money to it and he takes it from there.
What is fun is when people give you their old junk and it's worth big $$!

I get that look all the time from family and friends. I just tell them there are a lot worse ways to spend my money!! lol!
'Getting it' has to be one of the greatest things about blogging ... talking with others who 'get it' with no explanation necessary. :-)
PS Your mail carrier sounds like a GEM who makes the extra effort. Lucky you!
I asked my grandma if she lived my (new to me) armoire that I got at the antique store... and she said "It looks like you pulled it from a dumpster".... I guess she didn't appreciate the worn patina on the paint! LOL
The Look. I know it well. But I'd rather have The Look that someone (my SIL) openly making fun of the things I buy to keep and to sell.
Hahaha...I know that look too :) But I am excited to tell you that my mail carrier "gets it" and even asked if she could bring her daughter over to see my junked up front porch...I guess she "gets it" too :) Laurel@chippingwithcharm
I am my mail carrier...and I get it. I love to talk to my customers who also get it. I get so many new ideas from them. I also get a lot of inspiration from you and other fellow bloggers. But I too get that look. My boyfriend will look at me like I have lost my mind when he sees something that I haven't "played with" yet, but he usually likes it when it is finished. Everyone else thinks that I have just lost my mind.
That is a cute story...yes, I do get those looks from friends that dont "junk." My Dad will say when visiting as he eases slowly into a chair "Is this chair safe to sit in?" I have sold more in my booth that has come off the side of the road more often than things that I found at auctions! Go figure! I am a new blogger. Visit me at thecrankyqueen.blogspot.com Thanx, Tiff
Boy do I know the look. At my job I work with "fufu" women who TOTALLY do not get what I like to do. They do like some of my projects but don't get the fact I'd rather shop TS, FM, ES than go to the "MALL". I guess though I have more fun than them. LuAnn
Oh Yes I get the stupid look a lot
I have a very close friend who thinks I am really crazy
She says I dont see it !!
she just can't understand why any one would go junking
Her loss and all my treasures

Oh I won the wonderful yoyo pillow over on Flea Market Style blog

I constantly get that "I don't get it" look! Non-creative people think so much in the box, they have never really considered that there is any place outside the box. And! if you happen to be an artist who doesn't make a lot of money off your art, they REALLY don't get it. But what an awesome moment it is, when you happen to meet someone who DOES get it!
Cheers ~
Dawn (who uses junk in her art all the time).
I always get this look. My co-workers are all into decorating the same way...comfort in numbers, I suppose. But, I like the strange stuff, the junk, the odd antique, and best yet...the rusty sign. Being unique is always better in life.
We go through mail carriers like yesterday's mail (LOL), so I don't get to chat with them much, & our driveway is so long, I rarely know when they show up.
I guess your mail carrier doesn't have to get "it" as long as she's a sweetheart & brings you the supplies you ask for. How cool is that?! Have you made her something fabulous out of the stuff you call junk (Christmas, maybe)? THEN she might get it. ;)
I have a few friends who give me blank looks when I tell that what I sell.
I used to have the same mailman everyday and now it is someone new everyday. I miss having that connection with the mailman.
