Telephone Nitche'

Wow what a weekend it has been for me. I finally got my telephone nitch finished along with all of the other stuff I was able to do (see prior 2 posts). Well here is the step by step on the nitche'
It started out like this.

I added sides to it to hide some of the uglies.

Then I had to fix part of the arch, and paint

A few of the neat things about this piece that I found while working on it. were the bell

and Label
which I did not paint over.

I added some 1/2 spindles to it to, and I left the chippy back un-touched.

When it was all done, I brought it in and hung it on the wall.

I turned it into a shadow box of sorts. I'll be able to change out the display with the seasons. Sorry the pics are blury, but these showed the actual color the best,
The Flash washed it out. I'm real pleased with this project. Funny thing is I found another nitch' at an antique store yesterday, It wasn't as nice as this one though. I didn't pick it up. One is enough for me.

See ya tomorrow,
Margo

Canton Part 2

Well I promised to show you the treasures I picked up yesterday, so here goes.

What you see here is my very own Junkmaster t-shirt, a great black & white oval license plate, Some of those teacher aid letters (the little wheels mover along the shape of the number/letter, it helps kids learn how to draw the number. Then I picked up a set of small Billiard balls, and some letter balls from Laurie Anna's, they are all sitting in a gear wheel thing I got at the Veranda.

Here you see some of the other things I got at Ki and Sue's booth. The typewriter letters spell, what else, Junk and Not sure what I'll do with the numbering tacks, but I couldn't pass them up.At another booth I got The old keys which will be made into earrings, and the Euschion plates will be made in to another type of jewelry. I also picked up some DAV license plate tags, which will also be made into earrings.
so if you see a letter/number theme here you wouldn't be the only one. I think I need to work on this obsession.

DH and I went GS-ing today and I picked up this lot:

I love these bird cages, and you'll see a couple of projects come out of them. We'll see about the other items, but I have ideas for them all.

Now for a project. Do you remember this item?

Tune in tomorrow to see what I did with it.

OMG-So much fun in Canton-warning long post

If you've just popped over here from Garden web, I linked to the wrong post. Please go here to read about my Minnesota trip.

I have never had so much fun on a Canton trip as I did today. My goal this trip wasn't so much to find junk, although I did plenty of that. My goal was to meet up with some fellow bloggers and a couple of famous Junkers. First let's talk about the JunkMarket Ladies, Ki and Sue. They have finally made it down to our great flea market, First Monday Trades Days in Canton Texas. I am a member of the Junk Club and so I couldn't let the opportunity pass to meet them. They knew I was coming, being a member of the Junk Club, I can post on the forums and they actually respond to the posts.
So my first stop (after the bathroom) was their booth in the Civic Center.

When I got to their booth I saw who I thought was Ki, but I wasn't sure because her hair was a little different. After a second or two I decided to ask and sure enough it was Ki. When I introduced myself, she got that look of recognition and we hugged, and she gave me the best compliment a junker can receive (about my projects) and then we visited.

Then I met Tim. If you are a club member, and forum poster, you will know him as the forum moderator and general technical guy.

Sue was not there so I went to do a little shopping to come back later to meet Sue.
Here is an overview of their booth.

So I went out and met up with Linda of Linda's Blue Gate, and sat on her comfortable rockers, under her awning with her nice fan blowing on me and I met and visited with her husband. It was a nice visit, but I needed to move on. Let me just say, that you can visit all of these nice bloggers, I'm mentioning, by looking at the list on the right and just click on over.
Then I headed back into the Civic center to see if Sue had returned, and she had. Ki took me over and introduced me and we got our picture.

I snapped a few more pics of their booth, purchased some things and found some "famous Junk" see pics below. That is THE actual hamper, shutter cabinet, lazy susan etc.

Now stay with me because the best part of this story is yet to come.
Then I headed off to find the Veranda
They had the best holloween display at their store and I purchased some great items there.

Then I headed off to find Laurie Anna's where Tina of Cherry Hill Cottage was working.

These ladies were working their little patooties off, and I was able to help them out with one chore that I was happy to do. Now by this time I'm a little withered by the Texas heat, My makeup has melted away, and my hair is falling down, but I'm having a great time. I don't look so great, but I'm having a great time.

Then I headed out to do some more shopping, I found lots of great little items that I will post about later. Let's just say I think I have a thing for numbers and letters.
I was out of money but not energy so I headed back into the civic center to hit the ATM machine and decided to pop back to the JunkMasters booth (being the groupie I am) and Sue was there. I showed her what I had gotten and one particular thing she really liked. I told her they had tons of them and I'd take her if she wanted. And Off we went. To say I was as giddy as a school girl would be an understatement, I was junking with a JunkMaster!!!!! Well the place I took her was The Veranda and here she is digging through the basket of letter number teaching aids that I had shown her.

She told me what she was going to do with them, and I'll not give it away, but as to say, she is writing a book that will be awesome, and these will be in a project that will be in that book, (clap, clap, clap, clap jump up and down). It should be out in 2009. :(

Here are few more pics of their booth that I snapped as I was leaving.

And Yes I did get them to autograph my book, which they were kind enough to do.

Now as for what I bought, Tune in tomorrow, this post is long enough.

Canton News!!!!

Ki and Sue will be at First Monday this weekend, Whoo Hoo!!!!!
I'll be going tomorrow to meet them, hopefully without the crowds. They will officially be there on Saturday. According to their web site they "will be there all day on Saturday the 29th giving brief presentations during the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon." Hope you can make it. If you are going to be there tomorrow, I'll be stopping by their booth at around 1:00, I'll be in a RoboJunker T-shirt so find me. I'll also be going by the booth where Tina (cherry hill cottage) will be working to say hi to her. See you there.

Sneak Peak

Sometimes I have trouble finding the Quick Projects for my web site. I need a new one weekly, and sometimes, I just haven't worked on a quickie in awhile and I'm lost for ideas. When this happens, I walk around my house and yard, and sure enough a project, that I hadn't even thought about, will show itself as a quick project. These are often so easy I didn't even realize they were a "project". This little chair planter is case-in-point. I found the chair (seat all torn up) at a GS awhile back. I cleaned it up and the painting on it was brighter than I thought, because it was all covered in dust. I removed what remained of the seat and I stared at it for awhile. Finally I decided it would make a good Plant stand or Pet Water Bowl holder. I opted for plant stand and there you have it. It was easy, and quick, and a sneak peak at a future Quick Project of the week. I need to get a bit of a greener thumb though, that plant looks a little naked.

A Game For Monday

I'm bored, I took an allergy pill and it has zapped my energy. I'm just walking around mello, without any energy to do anything but eat. Not good. Margo doesn't do mellow, I'm either full speed ahead or asleep. So in an effort to spice things up I decided to play a game with you.

Take a look at this pic of some of my junk, and see how many things you can identify. There is no prize, just a little entertainment. Maybe one of you will know how to spell "euscheon" :)

Hints, almost everything is metal, if it's not it's obvious. Some things are only partially visible. I hope you enjoy, be sure to post your answers.

Something Fun For today

I have something fun planned for today. I'll be starting with this chair, you'll have to tune in later for the result. Ignore all the stuff on the chair, that won't be part of the project.

here's a hint, only think "more"
.

Ok here it is.....

I just love this old apple colored chair that I picked up at a thrift store.
The owner basically gave it to me when I asked how much it was.
After seeing the chairs in the inspiration pictures above, I decided it was time to
put it front and center for an Autumn display. Here are some more views.

Happy Fall!!!

Beautiful Flowers

I rarely buy flowers, mostly because I'm so cheap. Well I decided I would get some for my Dear Grandmother's Funeral, but being cheap as I am, I purchased them ready made and will take them there myself instead of having them delivered. I found this beautiful arrangement of fall colored Roses. Aren't they beautiful. I think that she would have liked them. I know I do, and I'm glad I'll be able to enjoy them for most of the day.
And they smell wonderful.

And in case you are wondering about the High chair (see previous post), I've decided not to go back for it. I really don't need it, and It is priced a bit high for me. Thank you all for your advise and input.
Have a great weekend,
Margo

To buy it or not to buy it.

OK, I went to a sale today, and they have a great wooden antique child's high chair. With perfectly chippy paint and a great shape for 45.00. I don't know if I should get it or not. Do I need it? no. could I use it for something? Yes, plant stand on porch. does it speak to me? Yes. Will I end up selling it in a year? maybe. could I get my money back out of it? probably not. Will I still want it in a week? month? I don't know. Well Folks, What do you thin? Should I go get it?

Back to Junking

Junking is great therapy, and I have been working on a project these past couple of days "as therapy". When I'm in the barn I really think of nothing else. On Sunday DH and I picked up this great window at Pandora's box. See Post on 9/17. I've had my eye on these for years, literally years and we finally decided to get it.

We are painting it white and it will go on the front side of our barn. So I've painted a coat last night and tonight. Also on Sunday, on our way to Pandora's Box we passed a sale and stopped. I picked up these wonderful bottles (for future projects), these Wooden letters (there is something about letters), and these apple baskets.

I think I'm going to fill some of the baskets with Fall Gourds for a Fall Display. Maybe get some Mums etc. I've never really decorated outside for Fall, but I think I will this year. But It's too early, still in the 90's here. Well That is all for tonight. Again Thanks everyone for your Thoughts and Prayers. All is well.

Thanks to you all

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for your condolences. I've been prepared for my Grandmother's passing for many years, and she was fairly healthy until the last few weeks. She still got around, could dress and care for herself etc. When I go I want to go as she did, from a brief illness, and not waist away from some lingering sickness. She was a spitfire full of idiosyncracies (i know i spelled that wrong). She was also a horder, and a few years ago my uncles and I cleaned up part of her house (for health reasons).

That is what her kitchen looked like at the time.

We filled up 5 of these

I want to be involved, because I don't want people throwing stuff away that may seem unvaluable to them, but does have either sentimental or monetary value. But that is in the future, for now we have a funeral to plan, so I'm off to the metroplex (2 hrs east) to help with arrangements.
The pictures at the top are: Me with her at my Uncle's funeral about 5-6 yrs ago, and her wedding picture to my grandfather.

I'm sure this post is full of spelling and grammar errors, enjoy my mistakes and have a great day.

It's Finished

of course I decided to paint it green (I really need to broaden my color palate). I replaced the knobs with glass ones, because 2 drawers had lost their knobs. I also did a little dry brushing of a cream color around the applique and on the legs, to bring out some of the details.

Main lesson learned: These drawer sets have 2 sides. They look the same except the side rails are different on one side than on the other. I actually mounted these backwards. If I'd mounted them right, the side rails would have a bit more detail. By the time I figured it out, I had decided it wasn't enough of a change to warrant de-construction.

I hope you liked this project. It was fairly easy. My DH routered the 2 pieces of wood that are the top and bottom. The rest of it was just nailed together, and then painted. The hardest part was finding the drawers. Here's a cost breakdown. Drawer sets $5.00 ea, Legs $2.00 ea, Glass knobs $1.00 ea, Paint-Left over-free, Top & bottom plates scrap wood, free, End result Priceless

Have a great day.
Margo

Update: Shortly after I made this post this morning I found out that my Grandmother (85) has passed away. Although I morn her passing, I KNOW she is Heaven bound. She was one of the first spiritual persons I met on this earth, and her faith was never wavering. You may not hear from me as much more this week due to family obligations.
