Yesterday you read about our rolling black-outs. Yep I survived them. The Power, Powers that be decided one day of them was enough. I'm wondering what good it did to conserve if they only did it for 1 day, Oh well, who am I to know about such things.
Turns out the problem at our house was more than rolling blackout and our power was off for a full 12 hrs, talk about cold inside.
My goal for the afternoon was to get the wood burner hot enough to heat a room, but without the ceiling fans to push the hot air down, it was only just a small help.
One thing I knew is that I might want some warm water for cleaning or hot chocolate so I put these pans on the woodburner to keep a rotating supply of hot water. It worked like a charm and Mr R and I had the best cup of hot coco yesterday evening. We also heated up a pastry snack on it. You could actually cook on this thing if needed. Just don't be impatient.
I also pulled out my solar dynamo powered radio that I purchased for Y2K and it worked like a charm. I was able to receive a few stations and the silence... was silenced.
That and some of the best house shoes ever made (From Restoration Hardware)
Mine look like the ones in the center. They are called "the food Duvet"
and a nice blanket was all I needed.
Until Mr R got home and we decided that eating out was our best option, and off we went.
Power was restored by the time we got home. One trick I've learned over the years, is that if you have an answering machine on your home phone, you can call it, and if it answers then the power is back on.
So we are back to normal but oh so cold still. I'm hoping it warms up a bit for Canton this weekend. I may venture out there on Saturday.
Hope it's warm where you are.
