I crave Color-Groovy

This time every year, I really start to crave color in my life.  Maybe it's because the flowers are blooming and the grass is growing again, but it never seems to fail.
Every Spring I go searching for color to brighten up my spaces.
It doesn't help that I found these great old retro molded chairs last week,
 in this fabulous orange :)
Retro pencil holder, and bag available in my etsy store
Just a few carefully chosen touches and some vintage accessories, and my industrial cottage guest room, get's an easy retro facelift.
Crochet blanket available in my etsy store

Old books, New Project. And an easy one too.

I love these old Readers Digest Book Covers. I've used them for Journals, and for lifts in product photos and in my house

Or If I need to add some color to a retro display
But nobody buys my journals and I have so many of these cut off covers laying around.
What to do?????
Answer: Clip Boards. Just add a bulldog clip and you are done. You've got a colorful and handy clipboard. Perfect size to slip into your bag for the grocery store or wherever.
And they are so pretty too.
What would you do with these beauties????

The Drab world of the Black, white, and beige office

Everyday I go to work, in my office which although I've tried, really does not reflect my personality
at all.
It seems that office furniture and equipment manufactures are in love with gray, black and beige.

Over the years, I've tried and tried to update my working world with a little flash and substance, but I inevitably fail, because I'm trying to work with the color palate "they" have given me, Uggh!

Recently at the AW13 London Fashion week, My favorite Designer, Orla Kiely, tacked the blah world of the "clerical office", and I am in love!!!! She started with the standard white wall, and gray/beige world we are all used to, and added some punches of color here and there, along with some fab and groovy retro styling and vintage office products.
And Then... inserted her models, and beautiful bags, clothes, and coats etc into the scene.
I love the effect the little bit of color has on this drab drab world.

This has inspired me  to tackle my work space using the same philosophy.

Today I found this fun lamp and am adding some small splashes of color here and there with folders, pens, and paper products.  And I'm sure, that colorful spray paint, is going to become my best friend in the near future.

And of course a little Orla never hurts.

I wonder what color I should paint that black metal shelf?????

It's definitely a work in progress, and  I'll be continuing to work on my drab black, white, and beige working world, and will share it with you as I go. For now, Baby steps.

They are Here, Spring 2013 Flea Market Style

My shipment arrived on Thursday, while I was happily browsing through fields of Junk in Canton Texas. I got a text from a co-worker that my pallet of magazines has arrived, and where would I like them stacked?
This is what a bundle looks like from the distributor

To say I was excited is an understatement, but I had to wait till the next day to see it for myself.  But then, I had no time to browse it's pages as I needed to get busy labeling and posting envelopes for those who had already purchased it.  Needless to say, my weekend is full with this task.  I should have all the existing orders out by Tuesday.

Last night during a bout of insomnia, I was able to browse it's pages, and as usual, it is fabulous.
Great job to Ki and her team.

If you have not already ordered it, you can save gas and frustration by having it

delivered to your door before it even hits the stores, by going here for ordering information.

If you can't beat em, Join Em.

A few months my electronic keyboard loving husband, found a fabulous old church organ, and plopped it into our living room. It is a beautiful machine, but I was at a loss as to how to decorate around it... and then it hit me.
I can't remember exactly how I got this idea but I decided to find some old wooden pipe organ pipes and make some wall art. I found the perfect size on ebay, after much searching.
I think it works :)

Check out my pinterest page for some more pipe organ, pipe  projects.

Love a good movie, but Good Movie Sets are even better

Last night I watched a movie called "One Day".  It stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. From Wikipedia  Emma Morley (Anne" Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess) meet after their graduation from the University of Edinburgh on 15 July 1988. They spend the night together but agree to be friends"  The movie follows them on their journey from friends to  more than friends over the next couple of decades. There are many sets, and they live in many locations during the film. It appears to have been filmed in London and Paris.  The movie was good, but some of the sets were divine.

This is her Paris Apartment, not seen till the second half of the film. IT was one of my favorite sections of the movie.
Even the bahtroom was everything you would expect from a Paris Flat.
The best street scenes were the ones in Paris as well, and I really loved this dress she was wearing.

Then there is Another home in the film a little later on.
Love that background wall, with it's layers of chippy paint.  Her work area below is perfect, from the portable typewriter which follows her through the whole movie to the leather satchel hanging from the chair.  She has moments of true beauty in this movie and moments of (ugly duckling).  Other than her fake British accent, I thought her performance was very entertaining.  But again, I am drawn towards the sets and props.
My Favorite prop was this wall mount french bottle drying rack, seen earlier in the film when he is just opening his place, a

and later fully decked out.

I guess I can't even watch a movie without shopping for junk :)

If you are looking for a nice chick flick for girls night, this is worth a rental. But grab the kleenex.
