The best stuff is in the Garage

I'm so glad to be home, and I feel that I am back into my routine. I really don't like to be away from home, and feel my most comfortable and relaxed when I am here.
Before I left for OK, I was able to hit an estate sale last thursday, where once again, I found the best stuff in the garage. I picked up 2 old pulleys, and a box of misc hardware. Here are the pulleys.

I love the shape of the metal on the first one and the second one has a great blue patina on the sides.

While I was in OK I picked up these items.

Can you see the hand mirror there for my collection, 3 mechanical clock faces for future projects, or just to have in a basket, and a bunch of rusty metal fall leaves.

Then waiting for me when I got home was a package from one of my junk friends Judith.
She wanted me to have a box of misc jewelry pieces that she had no use for. I gladly accepted and it was full of treasures. Thank you Judith for your thoughtfulness.

So once again, Junk has filled my weekend, and is filling my home and barn. It's a great life.

I'm back from Oklahoma

I just got back from my visit with my grandmother.

This is my mom, my gm and me.

It was an important visit for me to make, but I am, oh so glad to be home. My Mother and I were able to go to a few antique stores in the town of Claremore, where my GM lives. I snapped a few pictures of some great items, too expensive to buy, but great to see.

this is an old telephone operators station

And here is a whole cabinet of old PO Boxes

I love this kind of old stuff.

When I got home I had received my new issue of Cottage Living, which I have not had time to look all the way through yet, and a box of goodies from Judith. Thank you Judith, I cannot wait to look through it and see what all you sent. I'll post a pic of it all, hopefully tomorrow.

I'm real tired, and I gotta work tomorrow, I hope you all had a great weekend.

A few new old things

I wanted to take a pic of some of the goodies I've received over the last couple of weeks. There is just something wonderful about having a package in the mail. Even if it's something you ordered and you know what is inside. It's that whole delayed satisfaction rush thing. Well I guess I went on an online buying binge, because I've rec'd several packages over the last week or so.

there are very few people who would get this excited about old rusty metal things. But I rec'd my package with about 26 euscutcheon plates and then another with 26 old keys. More Jewelry will be forthcoming. Then Today I got these 2 french price cards that I had ordered from Paris Parfait (see blog side bar).
I put one up on my inspiration board, with what is becoming a number/letter collection.

This pocket watch was in with a bunch of old watches that I bought on the Hwy 80 sale. When I tried to get the face out, it began to crackle so I stopped, glued it all back together and then decopaged the remaining portion of the face so it wouldn't fall apart. Then I added a pinback and I think it works great as a pin. I like the "broken" look of it.

And here is my latest Euscutcheon Creation, available for purchase if you like.

I also wanted to show you one of my favorite T2T furniture pieces. I made this with leftover wood and old gym baskets that I found in someones trash. I use it to store jewelry
supplies. I really like this piece, and it is NOT for sale. :)

I'll be in Oklahoma for a few days visiting my only living grandparent, so I'll talk you to again next week.

A Quick Note

I decided to use the flower side of the chair back, and to use the bottom rung as a towel bar, as suggested. I can't wait to post some pics of it finished, but It is not ready yet.

The Store where I have my jewelry is having a big sale this weekend. If you live in my area, and haven't been to this place, you might want to stop by. Here is all the info.

The Flyer says invitation only, so this is your invitation. Tell them Margo sent you.

I'll be updating my web site on Wednesday night this week, because I'll be out of town from Thursday on. So look for new projects tomorrow.

Advise for a project

Here's my chair back.

I Think I'm going to add shelves to it but I haven't decided which side i want to highlight. Right now I'm leaning towards the flowers side. Tell me what you think.
also where should I put the shelves. I'm thinking one at the bottom where the cross bar is, and one at the next cross bar, but I can't decide about or where the others should go.

I'm Back from Reunion

Well I'm back from my 25th High School Reunion, and WOW!!!! This was a great reunion, it was arranged by a different group than normally arranges the reunions and it was much more casual. Blue jeans were the attaire, and that was wonderful. I saw lots of old friends, and made some re-connections, and boy are some of my classmates still wild. After a few drinks, people can put on quite a show.
This is a pic of me with 2 girls that I went to Kindergarten with , and then all the way through High School.

We joked that we were all wearing black so we'd look thinner.

I stopped by a junk shop on the drive home and picked up a couple of old lamps with wooden bases that I'll use to make finials. And a chair back, that I'll post a pic of later, that I'm going to make into a shelf or something. I'll need your help deciding which side to use, both are great, but tone has flowers painted on it and the other doesn't.

Here a pic of some great bricks I saw at one of the Hwy 80 garage sales. I love how the moss has grown into the imprint. Just a little pretty for the day.

Have a great week, and I'll see you tomorrow.

Friday fun

Well DH and I went on the Highway 80 yard sale today (see prior post). It was a lot of fun. We started in Gladewater (a good antiquing town itself) traveled west to Mineola, (another good antiquing town). We'd drive a lot between sales, and then We'd see one or 2 and stop. I found lots of great buys so Here are some of my goodies.

This frame was only $3

I got Gourds, Spindles, and great clay pots, See that folded thing, It's an old stitching carrier.

This great Coke carrier

A peterboro Cake Basket

DH found this. It's an old atlas in Russian

It was next to this old survey of Ireland

Trinkets, Rusty latches

Beads

Badge in German

And lots of watches, Hum, wonder what I'll make with these????

Best buys of the day, this old typewriter with white keys

And the best buy, was this Beautiful Sage Green Hall donut Disk pitcher. it's perfect in every way, great color, no chips, great shiny finish. It's like it's never been used. I've only seen them in Books, and the price was very reasonable.

Now Let's play what is it. Any guesses???? I didn't buy it, just got the pic.

Here are some great old door T2T benches/hall trees

It was a great day. I'll be heading off to my 25th High School reunion tomorrow so I'll talk to you all on Sunday. Have a great weekend.

Tina of Stitchin in Texas Blog and I met up today for some chocolate.

Oh and we had lunch too. It was a nice visit, Thanks Tina for meeting up with me.

as promised, here is the decopage project, I was inspired by something I saw on Fifi's blog. These are just plastic, I didn't find any metal ones, but I'm keeping my eye out. And as a first try I'm pretty pleased.
The musical ones are from an old hymnal, and the other one is genuine old stamps.
The one with the type letters on it, spells JOY.

And now for some news. DH found out about this great sale in the paper.

Wednesday Wonders

I love Fall and pumpkins but they are so expensive. even at 1/2 off at Michaels, the fake ones are still too much, when you consider that you need more than one. So I bought the paper ones. You know they are brown like cardboard and look kinda like paper mache'. I got 2 for 1.99 ea. I spray-painted them orange, I'm talking "caution sign Orange" because that is what I had. And then to tone it all down I rubbed them with dark stain. Then I wiped off and let the stain settle into the crevaces. And here is the result.

The 2 big ones are the ones I made. Not too shabby.....

I've discovered a new craft...Decopage. Thanks to Jamie's instruction, I've taken on a project that involves Decopage and I'm loving it. It's so easy, the results are quick, and Now I'm wondering what all I can do this with. Oh no a new hobby ;)

I'll have to show you the project later, as it's not done yet.

Later,
Margo

Tuesday Treats

First my treats in the mail box. My junking friend Elaine sent me a surprise package today.

Aren't these keys just delicious, They almost look like candy in this dish. It's a potpourrie of different keys from different machines. Thanks Elaine.

Also in the mail are these wonderful things.

What are they you might ask. Well they are actually drawer pulls. I got these and 4 that say Junk. I've removed the ceramic insert on the junk ones and placed them carefully around my house, so that we know what is junk and what isn't :)

Aren't they just adorable, not sure what I'll do with the other ones, but I couldn't resist. They also have ones that say other things too.

UPDATE: by popular demand, here is a link to the seller of these wonderful pulls. Some have blue writing some have black. He has many. Tell him robolady sent you, and maybe He'll send me some more.

A couple of projects

I was able to finish my project of the week that I started last week and here it is.

These are the industrial type bread trays, I picked up several of them for $1.00 ea last year at a garage sale, not knowing exactly what I was going to do with them, but I got them anyway. That is a big hint for all you junkers out there. You don't always need to know what you will do with an item, to pick it up. Just be careful, as these things can take over your garage real fast.

Anyway, I mounted them to old cabinet doors (I'm almost out of doors now) that were pulled from my house during the remodel. Another door is the back and another is the top. Then I trimmed it out with 1/2 spindles and a piece of a shelf I had in my stash.
This will be used out in the Barn, so I didn't do too much to it to make it pretty. If I wanted to bring it in. I'd clean out the tins real good, and probably do a better paint job. I'm pretty pleased with it, all I had to buy was the bolts.

I've been doing a lot of jewelry T2T this week, and I'm excited because I'm starting to sell some. Not so much on Etsy, but I sold 1 bracelet at my display at the antique store, and a few online.
Linda of Linda's blue gate , has agreed to lend me some space in her booth at First Monday this next time around, and I'm going to take the jewelry and some other smaller items that I have, and see how they do. Thank you Linda, you are a special friend.

Sondra of Aged Essence sent me some of the Metal Type that her brother had found for her to see what I could do with it. This is all I came up with for now.

I had to cut off a lot of the metal backing to make them use-able. I love my Dremmel Tool. Actually it is DH's Dremmel, but I've asked for one for Christmas:) Perhaps Jamie of
Simply Me Art could come up with something better.

I also decided to make my Typewriter key bracelet, more of a charm bracelet and here is how it turned out. I really like the look. It's different than the other typewriter bracelets out there.

If you are interested I now have round keys and I can sell typewriter Key charms for $6.00 ea. I still have most letters available.

This is the Charm Pin that I made for Rosemary

She had told me she wanted one, and I had to keep my eyes out for the supplies. Rosemary I mailed it Friday. Thanks for the order.

Well that is all for now. I'm trying to get some housework done today, The weather is beautiful here, and DH and I just got back from going to Sonic for Root Beer. I was having a craving, I loooove Root Beer, Chocolate, & Sweet Tea. Those are the things I crave. Today it was Root Beer, Yum!!!! Later, Margo
