Using Junk in the House

As I'm chomping-at-the-bit for the Junk Bonanza to begin, and just as excited as I was last year. I'm trying to fill my time with distractions until the big day comes. I decided to do a series of posts on how I use Junk in my house.

First will be the Laundry Room.
Yesterday I found this wonderful insulated container for milk. I scooped it up quick, not knowing exactly how I would use it.

For now it's in my Laundry room. It would be great for powdered soap, but I use liquid. So it is my trash can, for lint and stuff removed from pockets (not money). I replaced the basket that has been there for years. I knew someday I'd find just the right junk piece for that job.
I think the thing next to it is a planter box. I just love it because It's perfectly Chippy

I keep some necessities there, like jar for the change, a jar for other stuff that I remove from pockets, Some Vintage Textile Soak, Some scoops etc. The only problem is it rattles when the dryer is going.
Next we move our eyes upwards, and You'll see the old shutter that I made into a window valance.

This shutter was actually found in the barn, left by the previous owners. I didn't paint it or anything. Hanging down there, is an old carriage wheel decorated with even more junk, an old door plate. Above the cabinets are 3 old locker baskets that were painted a cream color.
Moving to the right and over the washer, is part of my collection of old hangers

This is actually an accidental collection. I'd see one here and then one there, that were unique, and I had to pick them up. What better place to display them?

Then I have this area for hang drying clothes.
Above the bar is a shelf that has some old metal baskets etc, that hold this-n-that and some more of that hanger collection. I also have this great cart on wheels, I think it's an old post office cart. Works great as a laundry basket.

That's how I use junk in my Laundry room. what about you?
Stay tuned for some other rooms in my house. I have Junk Everywhere.

Thanks for sharing that! It has given me some ideas for organizing my laundry space (desperately in need or reorganization!)

I love your laundry room, I don't have one, boohoo! I also collect old hangers, but for now they just hang in my icky basement where I do laundry.

Great post. My house is small and built in 1954, the washer and dryer are housed in the kitchen so most of my laundry items live in the cupboards above but I do have my powdered soap in a fabulous old lidded enamel pot with a handle.

Lots of Jennifers reading this post today! I love your laundry room. I, too, collect old hangers, usually one at a time. I use mine in my front hall closet. We never have to use any modern wire hangers there(Joan Crawford would be so proud). The only things I use to decorate my laundry room are some old clothes pins that belonged to my mother in law and an old washboard! Yours is more inspiring :)

I have the same milk container. I put it outside by the front door holding the dogs toys and brush. I love it! I just discovered your blog and so far so good!

I found your blog via another blogger and love your idea with old hangers in the laundry room. I have a "thing" for old hangers as well and may duplicate your design element! Thanks, enjoying your blog Margo.

Your metal cart on wheels I believe is an old laundromat cart. When I was little I remember these being at laundromats when I went with my parents. Lisa
