If you can't beat em, Join Em.

A few months my electronic keyboard loving husband, found a fabulous old church organ, and plopped it into our living room. It is a beautiful machine, but I was at a loss as to how to decorate around it... and then it hit me.
I can't remember exactly how I got this idea but I decided to find some old wooden pipe organ pipes and make some wall art. I found the perfect size on ebay, after much searching.
I think it works :)

Check out my pinterest page for some more pipe organ, pipe  projects.

Love a good movie, but Good Movie Sets are even better

Last night I watched a movie called "One Day".  It stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. From Wikipedia  Emma Morley (Anne" Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess) meet after their graduation from the University of Edinburgh on 15 July 1988. They spend the night together but agree to be friends"  The movie follows them on their journey from friends to  more than friends over the next couple of decades. There are many sets, and they live in many locations during the film. It appears to have been filmed in London and Paris.  The movie was good, but some of the sets were divine.

This is her Paris Apartment, not seen till the second half of the film. IT was one of my favorite sections of the movie.
Even the bahtroom was everything you would expect from a Paris Flat.
The best street scenes were the ones in Paris as well, and I really loved this dress she was wearing.

Then there is Another home in the film a little later on.
Love that background wall, with it's layers of chippy paint.  Her work area below is perfect, from the portable typewriter which follows her through the whole movie to the leather satchel hanging from the chair.  She has moments of true beauty in this movie and moments of (ugly duckling).  Other than her fake British accent, I thought her performance was very entertaining.  But again, I am drawn towards the sets and props.
My Favorite prop was this wall mount french bottle drying rack, seen earlier in the film when he is just opening his place, a

and later fully decked out.

I guess I can't even watch a movie without shopping for junk :)

If you are looking for a nice chick flick for girls night, this is worth a rental. But grab the kleenex.

Bicycle Built for two Couples Shower

My Friend Alison of The Flower Girl, Tyler Texas Florist,  was helping with a couples shower on Sunday and invited me along to see her fabulous concept.  I was intrigued when I heard some of her ideas.  The Theme was a "bicycle built for 2".  A great theme for a couples shower.
I knew she was going to do something with bicycle wheels, but I was  blown away by the table scape.
My pictures do not do it justice
The runner was so artistically drawn by her very talented artist Daughter
The playing cards were "bicycle" brand of course.
Very cute advise cards, with a play on words.

And outside she even had
A bicycle built for 2 ready for a picnic
A few vintage items for serving rounded out the perfect decor.

I just had to share this fabulous Shower idea with all of you, Hope you enjoyed it.

This theme could be adapted to any sort of party and would be so fun to do outside.

Since we are talking about Vintage Weddings

In honor of Flea Market Style's premiere Wedding Ideas issues I wanted to share again, some of the vintage weddings I've helped with, and some of the ideas we used.

Last year I had the privilege of helping my son and future- DIL decorate for their beautiful Barn Wedding. It was only my second wedding and was so much fun. One of the things we needed to decide on was the cake table and getting a cake plate just the right size for the cake.  Nothing worked...

So future DIL and I brainstormed and came up with this idea.  It's simple really, the cake will sit on a platter made from an old frame with lace sandwiched under the glass.

The process of figuring it out required mock ups and a lot of crossed fingers. I could see it in my head but until we got the cake and flowers in place I  didn't know exactly how well it worked out.

It turned out beautiful and I could not have been more pleased.
I got so many compliments on the cake table and it was relatively easy, and definitely inexpensive.

One of the engineering issues to be considered is the weight of the cake. To give the frame some stability and strength and support, I stacked books underneath. So the cake is not actually resting on the glass, which might have pushed through and created an amazing catastrophe. Instead the books are holding up the frame/tray and all is well

For flowers, we simply had the brides maids and bride place their bouquets on the table when they entered the reception.

Old frames are one of the staples I pick up at Garage sales, and I've used them in so many ways.
But this one was the best.
